Answers to questions on notice
There were several questions taken on notice at the 2024 AGM. The following answers are provided:
Catering costs
ASAN AUNZ’s Treasurer advised that the costs were incorrectly allocated to catering and should have been reported as venue hire. The amount relates to a deposit for a 2024 event committed to in FY2022/23 that did not proceed. A large amount was recovered and has been used for other activities, including paying neurodivergent subcontractors.
Rebranding and Website
The general consultation process for rebranding is described on the Narrative Alchemy website referred to in the ASAN AUNZ 2024 Annual Report.
For ASAN AUNZ, this process included:
- Substantial market/community research including national, international and localised research.
- 2023 ASAN AUNBZ Board, Staff and User Led Design Group members were provided with multiple opportunities to contribute to this process via online workshops, 1:1 meetings, online collaborative brainstorming boards, emails, videos or any other method requested to make it accessible.
- Members were asked for their guidance, input, opinions, views, feelings and collaboration regarding the ASAN AUNZ website and accessibility needs, as well as regarding branding.
- The consultation process was open for many months, significant follow ups and offers to support engagement and collaboration were offered.
The explanation of the new logo was shared with ASAN AUNZ’s community via social media and on our website. It provided an explanation of how the brand pays homage to our history while positioning us for the future.
Part of the outcome of the search mentioned above, was that the website needed to be updated. Reasons for this included:
- An increasingly competitive online space for Autistic advocacy highlighted the need for a unique focus and differentiation to be sustainable
- Existing site was under-utilised with most content requiring member sign in
- Grant requirements meant that more information needed to be accessible to the public and be able to be updated quickly and showcase our social media feed
- The last design update was doen in 2021 and was difficult to update and maintain in light of technological advancements
ASAN AUNZ has already seen significant benefit from these investments, including:
- Positive feedback from members, advocates, organisations and government
- Substantial increase in followers, reach and engagement, with increases over the past two months exeeding that of the entire prior year
- Combined with our communications strategy, this has seen substantial increases in membership numbers, connections with our community, offers of support and board member nominees.
The branding and website activities were grant deliverables, and paid for with funds from the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services.
